California is great!

So it’s been just about 3 months now since I arrived here in California and I figured I better post an update! While I miss alot of things from Maine (my son most of all) I still truly believe that this was the right move. Hell, I’d venture to say that this is the best move I’ve ever made! The weather is awesome the vast majority of the time. I live together with the love of my life who is simply amazing! I have a fantastic job where I’m useful and respected. Planning trips to Maine to visit family already and hopefully to Helsinki spring/summer next year for a nice holiday.. we shall see.. Yes, life is definitely heading in the right direction! Let’s hope everything stays on track! =)

Goodbye Maine!

So very early in the morning on Friday, June 23rd, I’m going to begin my 5 day trek across the United States to southern California! If you had asked me a year ago what my future would be like, I wouldn’t even possibly have been able to conceive that I would be doing this. Still, I feel very fortunate to be in a position to make such a dramatic change and while I will miss alot of things here, I am looking forward to the new opportunities to be found on the west coast. There’s nothing like a good challenge to make life exciting! =)

Why Reinvent the Wheel?

I’ve gone ahead and ported the site over to WordPress (http://www.wordpress.com/) for a few different reasons. First of all, I want to say that I *do* have my own web backend content-management application in the works at the moment which you’ll be hearing about in the coming months, but in doing so I decided to experiment with some of the other apps out there to get a feel for how other people are implementing similar solutions. I believe that it’s always good to analyze and learn from other people’s work. That is, after all, part of the key benefits of open-source software. Every developer takes different approaches and there’s usually something to be gained from each of them. So this change is essentially part of that process. It may stay or it may not. For the moment however, I think it will do. =)
